CAUGHT: Bus driver disguises as Police, robs bank customers in Lagos

A 40-year old com­mercial bus driver, Suleman Lambe, has been arrested and charged before a Lagos court for al­legedly impersonating the Nigerian police officer and uses the force uniform to rob customers withdrawing money at a bank in Lagos.

The suspect was arrest­ed within the premises of FCMB Plc at Cele in Egbe suburbs of Lagos where he and his gang members po­sition to monitor and rob customers coming to with­draw their money from the ATM point.

He was however ap­prehended when his gang reportedly disposed one Ju­lius Olajire of N170,000 he withdrew from the bank.

It was gathered that it was not only Olajire the gang has robbed while pretending to be serving officers attached to State Anti-Robbery Sqaud but has equally robbed one To­heeb Sanni of N150,000 in similar manner before he was apprehended by a po­lice detective who arrested and handed him over to police at Ikotun division. Other members of his gang escaped.

At the Station, Lambe reportedly confessed that he was not a member of the Nigeria Police but could not explain how he got the Po­lice uniform.

The suspect was charged before an Ejigbo Magis­trates’ court with imperson­ation and stealing under the Criminal Code. He pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs J.O.E Adeyemi grant­ed him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. He was remand­ed in prison custody pend­ing when he would fulfill his bail while the matter has been adjourned till June 26.
